Where We Began
Three Generations of Growing, Arranging & Delivering Flowers
Zephiq Home Florist opened its wooden storefront on Maple Crescent in the autumn of 1987, when our grandmother Marguerite turned a roadside flower cart into a tiny shopfront no bigger than a garden shed. She sold sweet peas, cornflowers and freshly dug dahlia tubers to neighbours walking home from the bus stop, and she kept a kettle behind the counter for anyone who wanted to linger.
Through the decades the shop expanded twice, survived a flooded cellar in 1994, and watched the street change from dirt path to paved avenue. What never changed was the morning ritual: stems cut at dawn, buckets refilled with clean water, and the door propped open before the first coffee was poured. Today the same ritual is carried out by Marguerite's grandchildren, who learned to tie a spiral bouquet before they learned to ride a bicycle.
We grow a portion of our own seasonal material on a half-acre plot behind the shop and supplement it with stems from regional flower farms within a sixty-mile radius. This keeps our arrangements grounded in what is actually blooming, not what has been flown across oceans.
1987
The Cart On Maple Crescent
Marguerite wheels a borrowed handcart to the corner, selling sweet peas and cornflowers grown in her back garden. Neighbours begin asking for wrapped bunches to take home.
1998
The First Cold Room
A second-hand chiller is installed so stems can be conditioned overnight, extending freshness by several days and allowing the shop to take on weekly standing orders for offices and cafés.
2011
The Back Plot Is Planted
The family clears the weedy half-acre behind the shop and puts in raised beds of dahlias, ranunculus and scabious, giving the workshop a steady supply of home-grown seasonal material.
2016
Workshops Begin
Saturday morning hand-tie classes draw a regular crowd. The long table that once held seed trays becomes a teaching bench where visitors learn to spiral stems and condition cut flowers.
2020
Contactless Doorstep Delivery
A bicycle courier route is added for the surrounding postcodes, and the shop switches to contactless doorstep drop-offs, photographing each bouquet at the door so senders know it has arrived.

A Simple Flower Care Routine Anyone Can Follow
Fresh cut flowers are still living things, and a little routine in the first hour after delivery makes a noticeable difference to how long they last. The steps below are the same ones our florists follow at the bench every morning before the shop opens.
None of it requires special equipment — a clean vase, sharp scissors, cool tap water and a cool spot away from direct sun are enough. The single most common mistake we see is a dirty vase; bacteria in old water is what shortens vase life more than anything else.
- Re-cut every stem at a 45-degree angle before placing in water.
- Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline.
- Change the water completely every two days, not just top it up.
- Keep the arrangement away from radiators, fruit bowls and direct sun.
- Remove individual stems as they fade so the rest keep drinking cleanly.
- Use the flower food sachet that arrives with your bouquet, in the right ratio.

Sturdy and forgiving. Change water every two days and recut stems once midweek. They tolerate warmer rooms well.

Among the longest-lasting cut stems. Strip lower leaves thoroughly and keep the water clean; they will often go ten days plus.

Most Saturday mornings the workshop bench clears of orders and becomes a teaching table. Sessions are small, relaxed and come with coffee, stems to take home, and the satisfaction of tying your first proper spiral.

Stems are selected from the bench, re-cut at an angle and placed in clean cool water to condition for at least an hour before they are tied, so they arrive already drinking well.

Your bouquet is tied in a spiral by hand, wrapped in unbleached paper with a raffia knot, and paired with a hand-written note and a sachet of flower food.

A bicycle or van courier drops the bouquet to the door, photographs it on the step and confirms arrival, so you know the flowers have reached the recipient safely.
Standing Orders & Recurring Delivery
For offices, cafés, restaurants and reception desks we offer weekly standing orders. Each week we read the bench and send a fresh arrangement in whatever is at its peak, so the display always looks current rather than repeated.
Standing orders can be paused for holidays, swapped between a vase arrangement and a hand-tie, and adjusted in size as the season changes. We collect and refill the previous week's vase at the same time as dropping the new one, cutting down on glass waste.

Which areas do you deliver to on the same day?
Same-day delivery covers nine surrounding postcodes for orders placed before midday. Postcodes a little further out are delivered the following morning. If you are unsure whether your address falls inside the same-day zone, give us a call with the postcode and we will confirm right away.
Can I request a specific colour palette or flower?
Absolutely. Tell us the colours, the occasion and any flower the recipient loves or is allergic to, and we will read the bench for stems that fit. Because we work with seasonal material, we will always suggest the closest in-season alternative if a specific variety is not available that week.
Do you handle wedding and event flowers?
Yes. We take a limited number of weddings and events each season so that each receives proper attention. We begin with a consultation to understand the style, palette and setting, build a sample arrangement ahead of the day, and manage delivery and any on-site placing. Reach out early, as peak weekends fill months ahead.
How long will my bouquet last?
With clean water and the care routine on our flower-care page, most mixed hand-ties last five to eight days, and sturdy stems like chrysanthemums often go ten days or more. Roses kept in deep, freshly changed water can hold a full week. We include a flower-food sachet and care card with every bouquet.
Can I set up a recurring delivery for my business?
We run weekly standing orders for offices, cafés, restaurants and reception areas. Each week we send a fresh arrangement in whatever is at its peak on the bench, collect and refill the previous vase, and adjust the size or style as the season shifts. Pausing for holidays is simple — just let us know the week before.
Do you offer gift cards?
